Easy to find tickets

I used Trainline to grab some tickets for a trip to London last month. I needed a couple of UK Advance Train Tickets for me and my friend. It was pretty straightforward to search for times and prices. I liked how it showed different options and carriers. Got my e-tickets right away. Overall, it was a smooth experience.

Consistently reliable service

I've used Trainline for years now for various UK train journeys. This time I booked some First Class Train Tickets for a business trip. Just like before, the booking flow was familiar and simple. The pricing was clear, and I got my e-tickets without any fuss. It's always been reliable for me, which is why I keep coming back instead of checking other sites.

Good savings with Railcard

I was looking for the best deal on a trip from Manchester to Edinburgh. I used my 16-25 Railcard and Trainline applied the discount automatically when I searched, which was handy. I also managed to snag some UK Advance Train Tickets, saving quite a bit compared to what I'd pay at the station. Felt like I got good value for my money, which is always the goal. The whole process was simple and I got my tickets fast.

Decent for Eurostar, small hiccup

I booked Eurostar Tickets for a trip to Paris a few weeks ago. The booking experience itself was pretty good; I found the times I wanted easily. The prices were competitive with what I saw elsewhere. My only minor gripe was that the seat selection wasn't as clear as I'd hoped, but it wasn't a huge deal. The tickets arrived quickly by email. It's a solid platform for European travel, just a little fine-tuning on the seat maps would be nice.

I heard something about Nectar points. Can you actually use them for train tickets here?

J Josh W. 1 month ago
I think there was a Nectar offer at some point, but it's not a regular thing where you can just cash them in for discounts all the time. Might be a partnership that comes and goes.

I've never seen a direct option to use Nectar points to pay or get discounts when booking with Trainline. Maybe it was a limited-time promotion, but it's not a standard feature afaik.

Thinking of getting a 16-25 Railcard. Can I stack that with another discount, like a first-time app booking deal?

T Troy 2 months ago
I don't think so, usually it's one or the other. Railcard discounts are applied automatically when you search.

From what I remember, you generally can't combine a railcard discount with other promo codes. The railcard savings are usually pretty good on their own though, like a third off, so it's still worth it.

Does Trainline actually cover all European trains? Or just like, the main routes?

C Cody 1 month ago
They say they do a ton, like 45 countries, but I don't think it's literally *all* trains. Probably most major operators and popular routes though.

Nah, not literally every single local train everywhere, but they cover most of the big national carriers across Europe, like SNCF, DB, Renfe, etc. It's pretty comprehensive for international travel.

How quick are the refunds if I have to cancel something? Is it a big hassle or pretty straightforward?

K Kate Silva 2 months ago
It depends on the ticket type. Some are non-refundable, but for flexible ones, it's usually fairly easy through the app. Just follow the steps.

A Anna 2 months ago
Yeah, I had to cancel a flexible ticket once and it was pretty painless. The money took a few days to hit my bank, but the process itself in the app was straightforward. Just make sure you read the refund rules for your specific ticket when you buy it.

Are they usually cheaper than National Rail's own website for UK tickets? Or should I just check both?

M Mia K. 1 month ago
Sometimes Trainline can find split tickets that National Rail doesn't show as easily, which can save you money. For standard tickets, it's often similar.

S Shane 1 month ago
They usually show the same ticket prices as National Rail because they get their data from the same place. But Trainline's split ticketing feature can sometimes snag you a better deal than what you'd easily find on the official sites. Always worth a quick check on both if you're really hunting for savings, but Trainline's app is generally easier to use.
